Experience

If you're looking for a math teacher, you're in the right place! I have gotten 800s on the SAT and GRE math section and I can tell you how to improve your score or your approach to solving any math problem. Math doesn't have to be a subject to dread. I'll help anyone overcome their math-phobia! Why is math so hard for so many? There may be different reasons why math is hard to grasp for each student. -Math is like sports. You learn by doing. Build your “mental muscles” -Math is like learning a language. It's foreign. Sometimes very foreign. -Math is like science or engineering. You need to be very meticulous and work everything out logically. -Math is like building construction. Building and math is a sequential process. -Math is useless and yucky. The good news is that you can do well even if you don’t like it. In life there are all sorts of things we’d rather not do, but we do them anyway. Go ahead and hate math if you want to, but do the work anyway. I will make it as painless as possible. -Math courses move too fast. Think of math as an obstacle course. Some people approach a math hurdle early in the race and get left behind. This is not your fault. Think of the game 'telephone,' the explanation can get easily lost along the way. My approach to teaching is to find the student's strengths and weaknesses and using analogies, patterns, and examples to help the student learn to make sense of math. I also give parents feedback. It is important for parents to know what we accomplished and how the student is doing. More about me: My passion for math and science led me to study Chemical Engineering and Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology. In industry, I used math and science to make and analyze batteries. I believe the best method of teaching is to find someone (you or your child) can really look up to. A mentor is someone to connect with personality-wise. I've previously taught elementary science and mentored students in protein chemistry and technicians on handling batteries.
