Education

Masters in Teaching Secondary English Education (grades 6-12), Bachelors in English. I graduated in 2008 with a GPA of 3.8. Before this I studied painting and printmaking in college. I completed all my education at Virginia Commonwealth University

Experience

I'm a certified Language Arts teacher who has taught middle school and high school for the past five years. I love teaching writing and grammar to students of any age. I have tutored students at my school who needed help with reading comprehension and writing skills, but recently I have also tutored 2nd grade math! So I am very versatile. I'm also the librarian at my school, so I'm well acquainted with children's literature and working with students of all ages to find reading material they enjoy. Before I became a teacher I was an art major and studied painting, printmaking, and illustration. Because of my art background I have become the art teacher for grades 7-8 at my school, teaching anything from drawing to spray paint art. I also have taught individual and group art classes during the summer months. I love being around kids and I love teaching. Almost every aspect of my life has centered around reading, writing, art, or teaching, and so this is just something I have a passion for.

Hobbies

I have always been told I am a very patient and kind person. I always have good rapport with my students and can relate to them well. I have a good sense of humor, so my students and I laugh a lot. But I take what I do very seriously and I hold my students to high expectations. I am a very creative person, so I find that it's usually easy for me to find a way to engage a student in their learning. I can always think of a cool way to introduce a topic or an interesting activity to teach a skill. On my free time, I enjoy reading and making art. I also love being outside and hanging out with friends.
