Education

I graduated in May 2012 with a BA from the University of California Berkeley with a major in History and with a minor in Global Poverty and Practice. I graduated with a 3.94 GPA. I will attend Stanford Law School in the fall of 2015.

Experience

I ran two tutoring organizations in high school that assisted students with a wide variety of subjects, where I focused mostly on tutoring writing. In college, I was a paid writing tutor at the UC Berkeley Student Learning Center and worked primarily with students in entry-level college writing courses helping to adjust to the rigors of writing at a college level. I spent the 2013-14 school year working as an academic tutor at a charter high school in Chicago, IL, tutoring all subjects, including basic high school physics, algebra, writing, reading, and European history. I attended Rancho Bernard High School in San Diego, CA, and achieved scores of "5" on the following AP tests: European History United States History Physics - Mechanics Calculus AB Calculus BC English Language English Literature World History Art History Government I received the following standardized test scores: SAT: 2190 ACT: 34 LSAT: 173

Hobbies

I believe in tutoring as a means to empower my students to actualize their academic skills and potential. I enjoy a peer-based approach where I will work to build up my students' self-confidence in the relevant subject and increase their autonomy rather than their reliance on me as a tutor. I strive to create a tutoring relationship and environment where my student feels he or she can be communicative about areas of struggle, and where we can openly collaborate on strategies and techniques to improve the student's subject mastery and classroom performance. I have extensive experience working from students who are having a difficult time in the classroom to those looking to improve on already solid comprehension/skills, especially those seeking to learn writing skills needed to succeed at a college level (or writing college essays themselves). In my free time, I am an avid runner and enjoy playing guitar, hiking, and travel- I most recently spent six weeks in northwest South America exploring and brushing up on my Spanish (which still needs plenty of work).
