Experience

I enjoy helping people learn, especially in a one-on-one setting with people who actually need help learning. One of the primary challenges in teaching is matching your teaching style to the way each student learns, and a one-on-one tutoring format allows me to assess the needs of a student and meet those needs more effectively. This makes for a more rewarding experience for the student, and also for me. Teaching Experience: TA at UCSD NanoEngineering. Courses taught: Nano 15 (Eng. Computing using Matlab). Nano 102 (Chem. Hobbies

My main hobby is music performance. I've been in music classes since the days of "Mommy and Me" baby classes. In elementary and middle school, I was in a recorder ensemble for 8 years, playing soprano, alto, tenor, and bass recorders. I started playing the tuba in 6th grade (2003) in my middle school's band. Since then, I have participated in many bands and orchestras over the years, from community bands to groups that have performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA (the home of the LA Philharmonic Orchestra). I was in the CBDA California All-State Honor Band in 2008 and the SCSBOA All-Southern CA Honor Band in 2010. I was in the Idyllwild Concert Band in 2006 and the Idyllwild Festival Wind Ensemble in 2007 & 2010. In 2007, we performed our final concert at Disney Hall. My high school's orchestra also performed at Disney Hall in 2009, and has (since I left) developed a relationship with the LA Philharmonic where they sometimes receive master classes from LA Phil members. I'm mostly self-taught, but I have received some professional instruction in tuba playing. At the Idyllwild programs, we took some lessons with a professional instructor. I also took private lessons for a year under Peter Wahrhaftig, the tubist for the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra.
