Assist students in better understanding their own reading processes including activating schema, making and running inferences, skimming and scanning skills, decoding and utilizing a text based upon genre, vocabulary, and developing analytical reading skills. Writing Consultant- Engage in one-to-one 30 to 60 minute sessions with undergraduate students across the disciplines. Some sessions occur utilizing on-line asynchronous technology. Assist students in any aspect of the writing process from close reading, analytical reading to generating ideas, pre-writing, drafting, revision, understanding and self-identification of individual grammar patterns, HOCs, and LOCs. Work with students on a diverse variety of writing genres including but not limited to brainstorming, outlining, essays, decoding writing prompts, expository writing, applications, and statements of purpose. Course examined several broad themes including, American exceptionalism, the role of the individual in society while examining a variety of genres and texts from a diverse collection of authors. Skills in analytical reading, close reading group discussion, and analytical writing developed throughout the course. English 109X: Writing Intensive Workshop (Sacramento State University) Instructor of a small 15 student weekly workshop offering supplemental assistance to Junior-level students required to take writing intensive courses for both within their major and for graduation. Workshops focused on developing skills to read, respond, and give and accept constructive instructor and student colleague feedback on writing assignments. Significant drafting and revision strategies and workshops enabled students to fine tune formal writing assignments within their discipline. January, 2010-June 2010 (Sacramento City College) English Reading 11: Reading Skill Development- Intern and one-on-one as well as group tutor within a classroom environment of adult second language learners. Working with the instructor, the course provides competency and strategy based instruction for improving skills basic to reading materials across genres. Teaching Associate, English 1: (Sacramento State University) Instructor of record for a 25 student course that focuses on preparing students for the challenging thinking, reading and writing required in academic discourse. Heavy focus given to understanding writing as a means for discovery and reflection, reading as a source for ideas, discussion, and writing expository essays that communicate clearly, provide adequate detail, maintain overall coherence and focus while demonstrating audience awareness and purpose. I earned my Master's degree in 2011 from California State University, Sacramento. I have been tutoring and teaching at both 4-year Universities and Community Colleges for over 5 years. I am highly professional, creative, friendly and positive with a wealth of experience and background in theory, pedagogy, and best practices. I am also a mother of 4 children ages 2 to 14. When I have free time I love to read, hike, go to the beach, and spend time with friends.
