Education
I received a BA in Women's Studies from Portland State University in 2002. I graduated with honors. My area of focus was women's literature. I received an MFA in Writing from the New College of California in San Francisco, California in 2007. I graduated with a 4.0 average.
Experience
I have more than ten years of experience working with youth and adults as an educator, tutor, mentor and writing coach. I was a nanny for one family for almost four years, I tutored the two girls, one in elementary school and one in high school. I also taught life skills to two of their autistic teenage sons. In addition, I've taught creative writing in high schools, group homes and foster homes. I've also led workshops, classes and presentations at Stanford University, UC Riverside, San Francisco State, UC Berkeley and more. I've provided coaching and support to high school students studying for their GED, and SAT. My specialty is in English, Language Arts, and Critical Reading and Writing. I am currently assisting several college students with improving their writing, by giving them feedback and tips on how to produce stronger essays. I absolutely love tutoring and teaching. It's fun for me to work with students, to help motivate and empower them. I have a strengths based approach, which means I try to get to know my students, and what they are interested in, and how they work. I'm very organized, and have a patient and positive attitude. My own writing has been published (under my pen name) in numerous anthologies, journals and magazines. My poetry has one several awards. I have a flexible schedule, and a car. I am open to meeting you at your school, at the library, in a coffee shop etc...I am here to support you, or your child become more confident as a reader and writer.
