Experience
I attended the University of California, San Diego where I earned my degree in Communications. During my stint there, I had the opportunity to hold a research position with Olga Vasquez, who is a renowned expert in Child Development and Education Studies. During this time, I studied the program "La Clase Magica," learning how students benefit from nontraditional teaching methods such as play, technology, and self-expression. In this program, UCSD students were placed within local schools to help with after school activities. This community was very ethnically and economically diverse. I tutored elementary and middle school-aged students in all traditional subjects in addition to problem solving, storytelling, study skills, and organization. I also participated in the YMCA Mentorship program, focusing on homework and how to study efficiently. After college, I move to Washington D.C. and have been working for a nonprofit. I have greatly felt the desire to return to education. I enjoy making the learning process fun with games, teamwork, and positive reinforcement. It is my firm belief that a tutor's job is to discover and apply each child's individual learning styles and needs in order to help them success. During my free time, I love playing along with Jeopardy, reading NY best sellers, attending alternative rock concerts, and trying new foods.
