I love teaching biology because it combines two of my passions: science and teaching. I understand that everyone learns differently and that I will need to employ different teaching strategies with each student. I have an extensive background in science and in teaching. My most recent teaching appointments are listed below: BIEB 130- Marine Conservation Biology, Winter 2013 Primary Professor: Dr. Carolyn Kurle -BIEB 130 is an upper division course -Taught 2 one hour discussions per week, ~30 students per class -Administered quizzes and proctored exams -Graded multiple choice and true/false quizzes -Graded midterms (short answer) -Assisted students with understanding the readings (primarily composed of scientific literature) BIEB 176- Conservation and the Human Predicament, Spring 2013 Primary Professors: Dr. David Woodruff and Dr. Shirley Strum -BIEB 176 is an upper division course -Taught 2 one hour discussion sections per week -There were ~30 students per class - Each section had a different topic (Ethics and National Parks) -Created a separate curriculum for each section -Designed and administered weekly quizzes -Lectured weekly on important topics -Assisted students in the writing of research papers -Proctored exams -Graded midterms; mainly short answer questions BILD3, Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, Fall 2013 Primary Professor: Dr. Carolyn Kurle -BILD3 is a lower division course -Taught two one hour sections per week with ~30 students in each -Reviewed lecture material during main class hours -Assessed the material that students were struggling with to make lectures more pertinent -Created problem sets and worksheets for students -Voluntarily organized multiple review sessions for exams -Administered quizzes in section -Proctored both midterms and finals -Provided additional office hours to students that were struggling
