I attend UC San Diego and am currently in my 4th year. I will graduate in June 2011. My major is Sociology with a minor in Education Studies and History.
Experience
The Preuss School, Advanced Placement United States History Fall ’08, Spring ‘09 I was able to tutor students helping them advance their study skills, test questions and writing. I made the classroom a poster with a sample of ways in which they could study for the AP exam which consisted of test questions, writing, cartoon analogy and creative writing. I was able to help them again in the spring to review all of their materials for the AP test in May. Kimball Elementary School, Fifth and Sixth Grade Winter ’10, Spring ‘10 I was able to mentor a fifth grade student and a sixth grade student, spending time with them in and out of the classroom, motivating them to focus on their future and go to college. Work History Summerbridge San Diego; La Jolla, California Language Arts and Leadership Teacher; Summer ‘10 Tied to the San Diego Unified School district, this tuition-free program offers academic and leadership classes and activities to students. I worked as a Language Arts and Leadership teacher for students going into sixth grade, teaching and preparing them for California standards required of sixth graders. Relevant Classes I have taken two lectures courses on tutoring/mentoring and four practicums in which I have actually tutored in a classroom. Interest in Tutoring I am hoping to become a teacher and I want as much experience in the education field as possible. I also really enjoy interacting with children and teenagers.
