Education

I only tutor in English and writing, but I do it well. I graduated with a B.A. in English from UCLA in 2015. My editing and tutoring style is borne out of my experience developing screenplays: I try to see where the writer is going and help the writer get there more effectively. I never impose my vision, but always offer creative suggestions when the writer hits a roadblock. My learners always feel proud of their work after a tutoring session, because they have improved their own writing.

Experience

I was the Senior Instructor at Ethos Publications in 2012 for Lincoln-Douglas debate. I traveled across the country and developed customized lectures for each camp's participants, always utilizing the Socratic method to help kids find their best arguments. From 2012 through 2015, I was a tutor with Project Literacy at UCLA, a campus group that serves underserved areas of LA. I worked with kids from K through 8th grade on math, reading, and writing. Each school term, I worked exclusively with one learner to develop a rapport with him/her. At the first camp of the summer with Ethos, we had a particularly young group. I abandoned my plans and had each child read a paragraph in front of the group. One kid spoke too softly, and I suggested he shout the passage, after which I asked him to read it normally. Another struggled to get through a sentence; I asked him to reread it looking only at one word at a time, and so on. Each child finished rereading their paragraphs to spontaneous applause from beaming parents in the back. Helping kids discover their own ability is the most satisfying thing in the world. Hobbies

I love film and photography—they're my main passions. I watch, analyze, and talk about film and television and often find myself explaining things using humor and pop culture references. I also like going to thought-provoking shows and exhibits. I'll write page-long missives afterwards and talk about them with friends late into the night.
