My name is Kala-Le, and I attended National University and San Diego State University. I am a native of South San Diego, and still live in this area. While I grew up in an area that did not place a lot of emphasis on going to college, I was fortunate to have parents who did. My mother and father constantly reinforced the belief that doing well in school and getting a degree was critically important. My own academic experiences were very good, as I have always enjoyed everything about school. When you are in a supportive environment, the odds of your hard work and efforts paying off are much higher. Paying back what I received is important to me, and that's why I have helped kids since I was in high school. I spent 10 years coaching basketball, which put me on a path to being a teacher. I learned several key qualities including the ability to work with others, adaptability, patience, and organization. After earning my degree, I traveled to South Korea. In Seoul, I spent about 2.5 years teaching ESL to kids in elementary school. This international experience sharpened my skills and finalized my commitment to becoming a teacher back home. Today, I work at a Chula Vista middle school as a substitute. In the evening, you can find me doing coursework for master's degree and my Special Education and English certifications.
